Scarlet D'Vore

Find your passion fruit ... then eat it until you puke.

In the beginning...

Why I elected to self-publish my series instead of chasing after the elusive

traditional publishing dream? Well, I chose the ʻcutting edgeʼ path for my YA

fantasy trilogy for many reasons. But the biggest one would have to be for the

freedom. Let me tell you, I have toiled away in the dark trenches for many a

year, with both success and sound of crickets (never a nice sound).

I've had Hollywood flatter me with flirtatious words and Avion bottled water and I even

been hired multiple times to write for the big screen (nothing youʼve seen, but at

least it wasnʼt porn), but not even the notion of big bucks in a titanium suitcase

can lesson the sting of the lack of freedom to write whatʼs living inside your gut,

itching to get free.

Itʼs difficult to put into words the measure of fear that arises when you become

your own woman, forgo the stable of creative minds that are better at ʻspinʼ than
you will ever be and decide to make all of the important decisions with no one to

blame but yourself. The decisions that will either launch your dream into the

atmosphere, or at least in the clouds, or tank that career into an oblivion of late

nights of Patron Tequila and wild excuses (It was my bum kneeʼs fault).

Just me … Madilyn Bailey on my iphone … my typewriter or my Ipad Air … and

my trusty editor (who always find something to cut, no matter how awesome I

thought I wrote it).

Speaking of Editors. Hire a good one … no, hire a damn good one. One with her

own vision and can still tap into yours (Iʼll elaborate later on this). Because things can spiral out of
control, fast. Your newborn can wind up looking
a lot like someone elseʼs baby, with their traits, pudgy cheeks and crooked nose… (Ok. Pause. Breath out.) Itʼs way too early to rip out a good old fashion tantrum (I donʼt even know your name). Just make sure you have a good editor.

Anyhoo...

Where was I? Oh, yeah: lack of freedom. I canʼt tell you the number of sleepless

nights I endured (before the editing stage), BUT now that those abundance of

decisions have been weighted, measured and found desirable, I cannot express

the joy Iʼve been basking in since I finished writing my series … my way.

It
ʼs hard to believe that Iʼve made it here in one piece, and I can honestly say

every hard choice helped bring me to this exact point of content. Oh, I can still

hardly sleep itʼs just for a new reason now, an exciting prideful reason, which

makes me grin when I think of the long journey I had to endure. I grew. Some.

No matter the digital copies or paperbacks I am blessed to sell, I did what I set

out to do, without compromising my gut. You get all of me; better or for worse.

And that brings me to here: choosing the right path for me to get my trilogy into

the hands of the only ones who matter: YOU, the intelligent reader.

Drum roll please. And my choice?

Jeff Bezo, and his outfit of Merry Men (& women) over at Amazon Unlimited.

Honestly, Itʼs not about the loot (at least not yet) itʼs about reaching you, the

hungry reader with what Iʼve created to be eaten. I hope you like my story, as

much as I loved writing it, both the books and movie adaptations (getting a little

ahead of myself here).

There is much more to come on this Perfect journey. It
ʼs a bit funny at times

(hell, I laughed). A lot darker down the line (book two and three had me in tears),

but it will always be entertaining … even in death.
